World MasterCard Fashion Week is back in David Pecaut Square, as designers showcase their new collections. The media, industry, buyers, and consumers come together to view collections of some of the best of Canada’s fashion designers of the season.

One of the biggest fashion events in the country, Fashion Week puts up and coming alongside established Canadian fashion designers in the spotlight, setting the trends that will take the fashion world through 2015. Throughout the week there will be several runway and studio shows where designers will have their newest creations on display. The fashions on display will be your first chance to see some of the newest offerings for the 2015 spring season.

LOUIS VUITTON | FASHION WEEK FALL 2015 PARIS

It was only a matter of time before Nicolas Ghesquiere brought his love of futurism to Louis Vuitton. His Fall collection landed inside three space-aged domes at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, an indicator of where things were headed. And when Ghesquiere favorite Freja Beha, who only walks these days for him, started the show in a vortex-fighting giant white fur and a metallic mini steamer trunk bag. From there he showed coats in proportions both Abominable big and more sleekly trim.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN | FALL 2015 PARIS

Set in the cavernous, ghostly Hall of the Guards in the Conciergerie—where Marie Antoinette and thousands of other prisoners of the French Revolution were held prisoner—Sarah Burton unveiled an equally haunting collection that was also one of her most wearable. Yes, there was the drama and the theatrical pieces, but it was anchored in meticulously tailored and precise separates.

MUGLER | FALL/WINTER 2015 PARIS

It's the season of debut runways, and while David Koma has certainly wet his whistle at Mugler, he now feels fully eased into a sexy, strong aesthetic that marries both the designer and the house he now inhabits. These are women of power who own their sensuality. One shoulder leather dresses imbue a sense of futurism—and are certainly not for wall flowers.

Erdem Autumn Winter 2015 London Fashion Show

For anyone who was fortunate enough to attended the Christian Dior haute couture show Raf Simons created back in July his spring/summer 2015 ready to wear collection for the house shown on Friday must have elicited a feeling of déjà vu. It was the sartorial equivalent of the theory of trickle down economics- i.e. create for the top (couture) and it will trickle down to the needy (ready to wear).

MARY KATRANTZOU AUTUMN WINTER 2015 LONDON

Laura and Kate Mulleavy have a cult-like status. They started in fashion with a bang and the promise of couture-level clothes in New York. Their path since has had highs and lows, but this collection should give them upward momentum. They skewed perception, like fashion's current fascination with all things sport. They turned the baseball jacket literally on its head, the striped trim peeking out from underneath sequined mermaid dresses, while the tops of the looks were sequined athletic jersey shapes.

DOLCE&GABBANA | FASHION WEEK 2015 MILAN

At heart, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are mamma's boys. Their Fall runway a literal celebration of mamma mia, from model Bianca Balti and her baby bump to other women carrying sweet cherubs (low blow on the awwww scale, fellows!). And the clothes lived up to the ideals of Italian motherhood. If not exactly matronly, it certainly played into archetypes.

GUCCI | FASHION WEEK FALL 2015 MILAN

Wallpaper florals in sheer chiffons breezed down the runway, some done with asymmetric ruffles, others as sack dresses. These were tempered with some nice military-inspired olive and Russian red coats trimmed in colored fur. The Seventies touched down in all the pussy bow blouses and pleated skirts in lame, lurex and leather. The idea worked nicely, too with tweedy pencil skirts that had an embroidered bird motif.

PRADA | FASHION WEEK FALL 2015 MILAN

Fall took those Sixties silhouettes—soft A-lines, cropped trousers and double-breasted coats and vests—and modernized them in neoprene and slightly off color combinations and patterns. For instance, a check was a touch too big while mink details and knitted sleeves were cut short. Prada took equally recognizable shapes, like babydoll dresses and tops and tweaked them ever-so-slightly so they were something cooler and more modern. Silk collars added gloss to t-shirt knits, and croc took on new dimension as bright primary red, green and yellow separates.
